So, I was doing some, uh, “research” (aka, window shopping online, let’s be real) and HOLY MOLY, these things are *expensive*. We’re talking routinely hovering around a grand. A *belt* costs a grand? Like, I could buy a used car for that. (Okay, maybe a *really* used car, but still!). I saw one on Amazon – an “H Take Off” buckle with an orange strap, and it was listed at $990. NINE HUNDRED AND NINETY DOLLARS for something that holds your pants up. Craziness.
Then there’s this other one, “Blue —-Royal,” (seriously, that’s how it’s listed, with the random “Blue” thing, lol) with a brown strap, and it’s “only” $915. “Only.” Sheesh. And then I hopped over to the official Hermes site (because, you know, gotta be thorough) and saw the “Swing” buckle one in black. Ready for it? $1,410. One thousand, four hundred, and ten dollars. I could pay rent for a month with that! Maybe two, depending on where you live.
And then there’s another one, the “H Martelee” (sounds kinda cool, actually) also in black, for a cool $1,000. So, basically, you’re dropping a grand minimum.
Honestly, I kinda get the appeal. The leather *is* supposed to be super high quality, and the buckles are, like, interchangeable. So you can technically get a couple of straps and buckles and mix and match. It’s like build-a-belt, but for rich people.
I also saw something about “Rose gold plated” belts. Which, okay, that sounds kinda flashy, maybe a bit *too* flashy for my taste, but I’m sure someone out there is rockin’ it. I guess if you’re spending this much on a belt, you might as well go all out, right?
But here’s my thing: while I appreciate the craftsmanship and the whole “luxury” thing, I can’t help but think about what else that money could buy. Like, a plane ticket somewhere cool. Or a down payment on… well, not a house, probably, but maybe a really nice couch?
And, I gotta be honest, sometimes I see people wearing them and I wonder if they’re actually into the quality, or just trying to show off. Like, does anyone *really* need a $1000+ belt? Maybe. But probably not.
