See, I was browsing online the other day, looking for some sweet kicks (specifically, maybe some sneakers, hint hint to anyone reading), and I kept stumbling across these descriptions of Balenciaga shoe boxes. Like, seriously? People are selling *just the boxes*? Apparently, yes. And some are even hunting for them!
One description was all, “This Balenciaga shoe box is the perfect addition to any shoe collection. With a large size of 42sm x 35sm x 15sm…” Okay, so it’s big. I mean, I guess if you’re really into collecting, and you need a place to safely store your stuff, this would be great, but that’s not really my thing. I guess, if you bought a pair of shoes, and just threw out the box, and now you’re looking to restore your stuff?
Then there’s this other one that’s all about finding deals on eBay, right? “Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for Balenciaga Large Shoe Box, Original Paper Packaging at the best online prices at eBay!” Like, whoa. People are actually bidding on used Balenciaga boxes. What even is this world we live in, lol?
And then I saw something about Pinterest, “Find and save ideas about balenciaga packaging on Pinterest.” Seriously? People are getting *inspired* by a shoe box. I guess they must be looking for some creative ideas for their home decor.
But the thing that really got me was the “Balenciaga Hard Shoe Box. Perfect.” Perfect for *what* exactly? Storing your hopes and dreams? Hiding your secret stash of…socks? I dunno. I feel like there’s a certain level of absurdity here. Is it the fact that it’s Balenciaga, a brand that’s become synonymous with, shall we say, *interesting* design choices? (Remember those Crocs?) Or is it just the inherent human desire to collect things, even if those things are…well, shoe boxes?
Honestly, I’m a little bit baffled. I mean, I get wanting to keep the original packaging for something expensive. Like, if I ever actually managed to snag a pair of, say, Men’s Space Shoes in Black (which, BTW, sound amazing), I’d probably hold onto the box. Just in case I ever wanted to sell them, or, you know, admire the packaging.
But actively seeking out and buying a *used* shoe box? That’s where I kinda draw the line. Unless, of course, it was, like, a *really* cool box. Maybe one with a picture of a kitten riding a unicorn. Then, maybe, just maybe, I’d consider it.
