First off, I gotta say, Burberry. Classic. You think scarves, you think Burberry check. It’s, like, ingrained in our collective consciousness. But then they start messing with it, adding “Mirrored Horse” silk scarves…and I’m just thinking, “Okay, Burberry, what’s going on here?”
The ads I’m seeing? Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear…Sale! It’s the whole freakin’ shebang. Makes you wonder if they’re trying TOO hard, y’know? Like, “Buy our stuff! Please! Any gender! Any age!”
Then you see descriptions… cashmere, alpaca wool blends, silk… oh my god, you’d be bankrupt. And I’m like, alpaca wool? Is this scarf going to *bite* me? (Totally kidding, but still.) I’m just saying, the price point is probably *insane*.
And the Getty Images thing? Oh, that’s just peak “look at me, I’m fancy.” Stock photos of Burberry scarves… Seriously? I could probably take a better pic with my phone. It just screams trying way too hard to be aspirational.
The thing that *really* got me though was that “Authentic or Fake?” guide. Like, REALLY? You’re already selling the mirrored horse thing, and you have to worry if someones already selling a FAKE version. That’s kinda scary. It’s like a race to the bottom with the counterfeiters.
And then there’s the Danniella Westbrook connection… Remember that whole Burberry debacle from back in the day? That was, like, a *moment*. A cultural touchstone, for better or worse. Bringing that up just feels… I dunno. Tacky? Maybe it’s a clever marketing ploy, playing on nostalgia. Or maybe it’s just a really bad idea, reminding everyone of the, uh, *difficult* times.
